Airlines Collecting Foreign Currency for Charity

American Airlines and the Change for Good program with UNICEF USA

American Airlines partnership with UNICEF USA began in 1994 and this year marks their 25th Anniversary!!!

Did you know?  American Airlines has even had Trick - or - Treating for UNICEF at 30,000+ feet?  Over the years it has been available during the last week of October on select international flights.  What an innovative way to engage their passengers.

And during the month of December, Santa has even been known to make an appearance collecting leftover foreign currency!!!

Growth in Air Travel Means More Foreign Currency

Passenger Traffic

Global passenger traffic is just over 7 Billion passengers for 2017 and forecasts suggest that number will double by 2029.

Continuing Growth

Even mature markets such as North America are growing.  And the global compound growth rate is currently at 4.9%.

International Traffic vs. Domestic

International air traffic is predicted to surpass domestic flights by 2028.

What does all this mean?

Currency use at home may be declining with all of the new technologies available, however ...
Trends for many years show that currency in circulation has continued to climb.  When you combine that with travellers preferring to use cash, it means that even more currency will be moving around the world.
Ultimately, this means that anyone collecting foreign currency for charity will have a continuing, renewable source of funds for as long as cash remains a method of payment ... and as we have seen recently, the public is pushing back against cashless society ... everywhere!!!

Have You Ever Wondered How Money Moves Around the World?

Foreign currency and airlines - what's the connection?

Foreign currency, particularly coin, moves around the world almost exclusively in the pockets and purses of airline passengers.

This is the main reason airlines and airports have been collecting foreign currency for so many years for charity.

However, given that they are collecting less than 1% of the total amount of money moving around the world, it is time for other charities and organizations to get involved and collect some of the 99+% of the rest!!!

Donate Your Leftover Foreign Currency Today

Do you have foreign currency in a jar or drawer at home?

It's likely only collecting dust even though you kept it for other reasons.   Why not send it in and support one of the charities listed above?

Thinking of putting on a foreign currency drive?

That's a great idea!  It's very easy ... you've heard of a penny drive; this is the same except that you can raise a lot more money! Not only that, it's hard to say no to donating leftover foreign currency ... it can't be spent it, so why not donate it?  Is this an empolyee drive or a school collection?  Or are you adding it onto a bake sale?

It doesn't really matter as long as you are doing it!  ;-)

Give us a call.  We'd be happy to help out and provide suggestions to ensure you have a sucessful collection!
